FIA directed to provide copies of FIRs registered with its CCW

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has been directed to provide certified copies of the First Information Reports (FIRs) registered with Cyber Crime Wing (CCWs) since its establishment, along with the details about the punishments announced by the court in each case.

As per the order, a copy is available with The Reportersthe Pakistan Information Commission (PIC) has directed the federal investigation agency to provide the information and copies of the FIRs to the appellant at the earliest, but not later than 10 working days of the receipt of the order.

FIA in the order has also been directed to take immediate steps to proactively share all categories of the information mentioned in Section 5 of the Right of Access to Information Act, 2017 through its website and submit the compliance report to the commission.

The Commission also directed the investigation agency to ensure accessibility of the information proactively published on its website for all citizens, including blind, low-vision, physically disabled, speech and hearing impaired and other persons with disabilities.

It is to mention here that a citizen from Rawalpindi had approached the federal investigation agency, requesting to provide certified copies of FIRs and details regarding courts decisions, but the Wing didn’t provide copy of FIRs registered with the CCW and the court rulings, arguing that as per Section 16 of the RTI law, the said information cannot be shared.

However, the Commission while terming the citizen request acceptable under the RTI law has order the federal agency to provide the information within 10 working days of the receipt of the order.
